The Black Music Therapy Network, Inc. is comprised of cultural workers, music therapy students and practitioners, musicians, educators, researchers, and community agents at the critical intersection of music, wellness, healing, and transformation within Black communities. Our mission, to support the health and well-being of Black communities through music, is a commitment to Black Indigenous healing practices and dismantling relational and structural violence through the liberatory practice of music.As founder and CEO, I work with a dynamic team and- Established non-profit organization and board leadership supporting the health and well-being of Black communities at the intersection of music, health, and transformation- Lead the creation, implementation, and administration of organizational policies, procedures, and budgetary processes to support sustainable growth and development- Facilitate collaborative strategic and tactical planning with organizational leaders, cultivating teams across staff and board members and developing short and long-range objectives to meet organizational goals- Build financial stability through creative partnerships, developing funding sources for working capital, staff support, and educational programs and initiative; developing collateral materials for sponsorship, gifts, planned giving, and donor events; creating and implementing fundraising initiatives that broaden donor base; and executing online, social media, and print marketing strategies- Develop offerings that influence relational, structural, institutional, and systemic change and increase health access to service users through advocacy and community-based initiatives, financial supports, and partnerships- Create relationships and foster collaborations across multiple stakeholders, developing mutual support models through community partnerships.To learn more, visit our website:

ABOUT MARISOL NORRIS

Dr. Marisol Norris is a nationally recognized music therapist, educator, cultural strategist, and arts and health leader with over 15 years of experience at the intersection of community health, artistic placemaking, and social transformation. She has led high-impact initiatives across academic, nonprofit, and cultural institutions—designing and directing programs that center healing justice and culturally sustaining practices.Respected for her cross-sector collaborations, Dr. Norris is deeply committed to advancing health equity through the arts. Her trauma-informed, community-rooted approach integrates research, public programming, and interdisciplinary dialogue—elevating the liberatory power of the arts as a catalyst for collective well-being and social change.She is the founder of the Black Music Therapy Network, Inc, Lead Consultant of Aesthetic Healing LLC, and a member of the American Music Therapy Association’s Commission on the Education and Training of 21st Century Music Therapists. Her current scholarship explores aesthetics as an embodied meaning-making process within Black life, focusing on the impact of societal trauma on Black service users and the development of culturally sustaining practices that address community needs.
