We are developing a line of CRISPR-engineered iPSC-derived microglia for use in pooled, arrayed, and optical screening to understand the impact of DNA methylation editors on microglial activation in Alzheimer’s disease. My work involves the culture and differentiation of iPSC-derived microglia, plasmid extraction and vector transfection into HEK293FT cells for viral production, functional cell-based assays, and single-cell RNA sequencing and transcriptomic data analysis. This project is partially in collaboration with Dr Mattias Zilbauer (Cambridge Stem Cell Institute) and Dr Chun Hao Wong (MTI Functional Genomics Screening Lab).

ABOUT MARISA EDMONDS
As a Research Assistant with the Target Discovery Team at the Milner Therapeutics Institute, I contribute to advancing neuroscience research by focusing on CRISPR-engineered iPSC-derived microglia. My work involves cell culture and differentiation, functional assays, and transcriptomic data analysis, supporting projects aimed at understanding microglial activation in Alzheimer’s disease. With a Master of Science in Clinical Neuroscience from UCL and a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Neuroscience from Colorado State University, I am committed to leveraging my expertise in bioinformatics, iPSC-derived microglia, and CRISPR to support impactful research.
