Mario Almeida was the Head of Content for Pantaya, the only premium content SVOD dedicated to the US Hispanic audience. Mario was responsible for development and programming for the streamer since launch. He built the initial content strategy, focusing on strategic acquisitions for the first year and then growing the platform into a home for original series that are unique for the US Hispanic audience with a focus on storytelling, high production value, and big stars. Mario has shepherded a slate of original series including El Juego de Las Llaves, de Viaje con los Derbez, the upcoming Señorita 89, Pena Ajena, BBC remake Mi Tio, Toda La Sangre, El Refugio, and more. Under Mario, Pantaya has greenlit 12 other original series set to bow between 2022-23, including A Beautiful Lie, a modern update of Anna Karenina starring Kate del Castillo and others. The platform’s original content is typically co-produced with non-US partners, and Mario has worked with studio partners, producers, and other platforms across Spain and Latin America to source and execute content with top writers, directors, and on-screen talent. Before launching Pantaya, Mario held positions as director of development and director of marketing for Pantelion, Lionsgate and Televisa’s theatrical studio joint-venture. While at Pantelion he co-produced No Manches Frida (2016), a remake of Constantin Films blockbuster Fack Ju Goethe. Upon release, No Manches Frida was the fourth highest grossing domestic production of all time in Mexico, and its 2019 sequel set records as well. Mario is Cuban-American, and a graduate of the University of Florida.
