ABOUT MARINA SCATES

As a mission-driven educational leader, I am passionate about advancing equity, inclusion, and student success through innovative programs, strategic leadership, and collaborative partnerships. With over a decade of experience spanning school counseling, district coordination, and site-level administration, I bring a deep understanding of how to align policy, practice, and people to drive sustainable improvement.Currently serving as Vice Principal of Special Education at Antelope Valley Union High School District, I lead a team of over 100 educators and support staff. I’ve developed and launched schoolwide initiatives such as equity teams, wellness centers, and MTSS/PBIS frameworks that have significantly reduced discipline incidents, improved special education compliance, and increased access to mental health services. My leadership has been recognized by ACSA with the Co-Administrator of the Year award.Previously at LACOE, I led professional development for school counselors across LA County, spearheaded anti-racist and trauma-informed practices, and helped secure a $500K federal grant for human trafficking prevention.
