ABOUT MARINA ANTONIOU

I am a Professor in Semiconductor Devices, specialising in the design, modelling, and optimisation of silicon carbide (SiC) and other wide bandgap technologies that enable the next generation of energy-efficient, high-performance power systems.My research drives advances in electric vehicles, renewable energy integration, space electronics, and national grid modernisation. Over my career, I have- Led pioneering research recognised through a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship- Published extensively in top-tier journals and conferences, with multiple patents filed- Secured multi-million-pound research funding from EPSRC, Royal Society, Innovate UK, and EU programmes- Built strategic collaborations with industry leaders such as Hitachi Energy, ABB, and X-FAB- Served as Scientific Advisor to the UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), shaping the UK’s Semiconductor Strategy to strengthen the semiconductor supply chain, accelerate innovation, and ensure national technological resilience- Held senior editorial positions for leading journals, including Transactions on Electron Devices, Electron Devices Magazine, Microelectronics Reliability, Power Electronic Devices and Components, and Philosophical Transactions A, curating high-impact research that advances the global power electronics communityAs Chair of the Electron Devices Society’s Power Devices & ICs Committee, I lead international collaborations and foster knowledge exchange across academia, industry, and government.I am passionate about mentoring the next generation of engineers, championing diversity in STEM, and building bridges between research, industry, and policy to accelerate innovation.
