ABOUT MARÍLIA LARA
Before moving to the U.S, I worked as a solo practitioner in Brazil, where I represented individuals in a variety of civil matters. Since 2013 I have been researching about an alternative prison system, which supports restorative justice by preparing people to return to society after a period of incarceration while achieving the dual purpose of providing humane rehabilitation and protecting the community. My article was published in a Brazilian Criminal Book in 2019. I have completed the International LL.M program at the University of Alabama in May 2020 and passed the Alabama State Bar exam in September 2020. I love learning and helping people. Also, I am not afraid of new challenges! I have worked as a document review attorney, assisting the Walmart Pharmacy litigation team in preparation for massive opioid litigation. I have worked as a litigation attorney for Legal Services Alabama for a year as a John Lewis Fellow; since August 2021, I have found another passion, the Immigration Law, which I have studied during my LL.M program at UA and, now, I have the pleasure of practicing and assisting foreigners on legally immigrating to the U.S with a green card in their hands.
