About Mariela Moreno

I am an undergraduate Civil Engineering student currently attending San Francisco State University with an expected graduation date of May 2024. As I near graduation, I am eager to enter the construction industry and apply the knowledge I obtained through my studies at San Francisco State University. During the Summer and Winter of 2022, I interned at The City and County of San Francisco, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Construction Management. Through my internship as a Student Design Trainee for the City and County of San Francisco, I gained on-the-job experience under the guidance of experienced professional engineers who constantly challenged the way I thought and greatly advanced my knowledge in the industry. I worked directly with a Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer on 10 active projects and 2 closeout projects throughout various locations in San Francisco that focused on repairs and improvements to public utilities. During the Summer of 2023, I interned at DPR Construction as a Project Engineer Intern working on San Francisco State University’s 5-story Design-Build Science and Engineering Innovation Center. Having previous experience as an intern for The City and County of San Francisco, my goal for this internship was to improve my comprehension and interpretation of construction plans. I worked closely with DPR’s Field Engineer to create one room-specific QR code per every room and hallway within the 5-story building. The QR Codes were composed of several room-specific plans to perform quality control and quality assessment of in-wall rough-ins prior to drywall installation. Utilizing Bluebeam Revu, I created a map tracking the daily progression of the building’s exterior skin which exposed me to a completely new scope of work and an opportunity to improve my interpretation of construction plans. Lastly, I assisted in the planning and management of a tower crane dismantle on an active college campus. Throughout my time at San Francisco State University, I have gained leadership experience as Co-President of The American Society of Civil Engineers, a Mentorship Coordinator for The Mathematic Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) University Program, and as a Resident Assistant for on-campus housing serving first-year students. Based on my education at San Francisco State University, I bring valuable technical knowledge in materials of engineering, construction management, soil mechanics, mechanics of fluids, and principles of environmental engineering.
