About Marie Mora
Dr. Marie T. Mora is Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Purdue University Northwest, after having served as Deputy Provost and Provost Ad Interim & Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She has held numerous impactful and inclusive leadership and faculty roles at public institutions of higher education for nearly three decades; all but one have been Hispanic-serving institutions. A labor economist, Dr. Mora has been invited to share her research expertise on Hispanic/Latino socioeconomic outcomes with institutions and agencies across the country, including the White House, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, and Bureau of Labor Statistics. She has published numerous journal articles and book chapters, two books, and four co-edited volumes. She has been PI or Co-PI on $4 million in federally-funded projects, including NSF ADVANCE, NSF INCLUDES, and other NSF broadening participation in STEM projects. Dr. Mora is a former President and founding member of the American Society of Hispanic Economists (ASHE), and former Director of the then-NSF-funded AEA Mentoring Program. She previously served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas San Antonio Branch; Bureau of Labor Statistics Data Users Advisory Committee (DUAC); Executive Committee and Board of the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE); and the American Economic Association (AEA) Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession (including one year as Chair). Dr. Mora’s recent honors include the 2024 MSUDenver President’s Leadership Award (an award given only in extraordinary circumstances); 2022 biennial Academic Achievement Award (ASHE); 2020 U.S. Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics & Engineering Mentoring (#PAESMEM, from the White House); 2018 Impactful Mentor Award (AEA Mentoring Program); 2017 Inspiring Leaders in STEM Award (INSIGHT into Diversity); 2016 Outstanding Support of Hispanic Issues in Higher Education Award (AAHHE); 2015 Cesar Estrada Chavez Award (American Association for Access, Equity, & Diversity); and 2015 Distinguished Alumnus Award (University of New Mexico (UNM) Department of Economics). Dr. Mora earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Texas A&M University, and B.A. & M.A. degrees - also in Economics - from UNM in her hometown of Albuquerque.
