ABOUT MARIE MCGLINCHEY
With four decades of experience in administration and local government, my career journey has been marked by adaptability, dedication, and a passion for community service. Beginning at the age of 15 on a Youth Training Scheme in Nottingham’s once-thriving textile industry, I acquired valuable administration skills and qualifications, alongside the unique skill of sewing. This early experience laid a strong foundation for my professional growth. As Nottingham’s textile industry declined, I transitioned to a career with Nottingham City Council in July 1991. Over the years, I have gained extensive knowledge and expertise within local government, primarily working within the Marketing and Communication team. My roles have allowed me to contribute to significant campaigns and events, including Euro \'96, Back the Bid World Cup 2018/22, City of Football, and the Robin Hood Pageant. These experiences have enhanced my skills in project management, event coordination, and stakeholder engagement. In my most recent role, I oversaw the management of the corporate Design and Print team, where I was responsible for managing staff, liaising with clients and suppliers, and working within the EU Print framework 2017-21. This position required advanced administration skills, strategic planning, and a keen eye for detail, all of which I excelled in.Throughout my career, I have been committed to making a positive impact on my community and have taken pride in being an ambassador for Nottingham and the Council. My ability to adapt to changing circumstances, coupled with my strong work ethic and dedication, has been a driving force behind my professional achievements. As of October 2019, I retired due to ill health, which allowed me to focus on my battle with stage 4 bowel cancer. Despite this challenge, I remain optimistic and determined to live life to the fullest. During this time, I have actively engaged with the community, making a difference for residents and the neighbourhood. I created a Facebook page, organised community events, published quarterly newsletters, and worked closely with Nottingham City Council Housing Services and ward Councillors. This involvement has been recognised by Nottingham City Council Housing Services and the ward Councillor, resulting in nominations for two awards, winning one.As I look towards the future, I am eager to bring my extensive experience, skills, and passion for community service to a new role where I can continue to make a meaningful difference.
