About Mariah H.
Mariah Hernandez-Fitch is from Dulac, Louisiana, and a citizen of the United Houma Nation. Her debut short, Ekbeh, premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. In 2024, Mariah was named one of United National Indian Tribal Youth’s “25 Under 25,” which allowed her to host workshops for Indigenous youth on creating digital storytelling to serve tribal communities. She graduated from Dartmouth College in 2023 with a degree in Film and Media Studies and went on to complete her master’s in American Indian Studies at UCLA in 2025. Now based in New Orleans, she is a 1L at Tulane Law School, pursuing a law degree to deepen her understanding of tribal sovereignty while exploring pathways in entertainment, sports, and environmental law. Her Indigenous, Mexican, and Filipino heritage shapes both her films and legal studies, guiding her engagement with questions of sovereignty, policy, identity, and land.
