ABOUT MARIAH OAKLEY
I am driven by a constant exploration of this question: how can we make this better, for everyone?Whether I was building inclusive playground programs, redesigning a nonprofit’s tech and finance systems, or coaching a fundraising team through a tough quarter, that question has guided every step of my work. I lead with both head and heart, pairing operational clarity with deep care for people.Over the past 15+ years, I’ve worn many hats across nonprofits, public health, and education. I’ve led fully remote teams, built CRMs and compliance systems from scratch, launched national registries, and stabilized organizations in moments of crisis. I’ve coached team members through change and growth, even when they didn’t report to me. And I’ve done it all while keeping mission and equity at the center.Today, I serve as Senior Director of Operations (functionally COO) at a rare disease nonprofit. I oversee HR, finance, and systems, while also supporting fundraising strategy, coaching the development team, and keeping a close eye on culture. In small teams, leadership often means stepping in wherever you’re needed, and I’ve learned to lead with curiosity, flexibility, and a bias toward action. At my core, I’m a systems thinker who cares deeply about people. I believe the way we build organizations matters, and I want to help build ones that are values-aligned, scalable, and genuinely inclusive.
