Develop and execute a salmon and water policy agenda and strategize in coordination with staff, board, and coalition partners to effect policy change at the statewide level.Opposition to Newsom 2025 Trailer Bills: Coordinate with the Environmental & Tribal Coalition to visit targeted legislators. Meet Bay Area legislators and emphasize the economic impact on the individual districts due to the three-year closure of the California Salmon Season.Develop Relationships with legislators: Target new legislators from recent election turnover to build the base for future salmon items.Coalition Collaboration: Engage in statewide and legislative advocacy through testimony, written comments, sign-on letters, lobbying days, and coalition development, including participation in key coalition meetings such as the Bay-Delta Legislative Huddle.Policy Priorities: Manage and update priority legislation. Provide written updates, reports, and proposals for the GSSA board and colleagues. Develop fact sheets for legislators’ staff.Fundraising Events: Manage event permitting. Solicit donations from attendees. Recruit volunteers for events, including photographers, to create social media posts.Communication: Collaborate with the Marketing Manager and campaign consultants to target relevant audiences and tailor messaging.Educational Programs: 1) Richmond Net Pen Project provides a fishing opportunity to low-income communities, providing a high-quality protein and nutrient food, and education on the salmon life cycle. 2) Salmon egg program partners with a Diablo Water board member to promote a new education program providing salmon eggs to students to raise and release to restore the local water system ecosystem.
