Gharbiah, EG

This project was an internship funded by a grant from the National Cancer Institute given to graduate public health students in the fields of cancer epidemiology and prevention in international and U.S. minority settings. I received a research grant to identify the spatial relationship between liver cancer, hepatitis c infection, and heavy metal environment contaminants in Gharbia, Egypt. Through collaboration with the President and Vice President of the Gharbiah Cancer Society, I used SAS statistical coding software and ArcGIS to analyze the frequencies and clustering of liver cancer incidence in the urban/rural areas of the Gharbia Governate. In conjunction with local soil scientists, I tested heavy metal contamination levels; using Spatial Autocorrelation to assess for similar epidemiological patterns of distribution.
