ABOUT MARIA DEL SOL NAVA
I am originally from Los Angeles, CA, and identify as a first-generation college student. I did not have guidance from my parents about what came after high school. But I knew college was my only option, so I sought out different opportunities such as The Riordan Programs, South Central Scholars, and the Gates Millennium Scholarship which encouraged me to succeed academically, personally, and professionally to get to college.SInce then, I graduated from Middlebury College where I was a double major in Mathematics and Italian. After my time as a student, I decided to stay and work in the Admissions Office as a Counselor where I discovered my passion for supporting students through the college search process and succeed once they arrive. I decided to continue this journey of supporting students by returning to school to pursue my Master\'s in Education at the University of Vermont. The Higher Education and Student Affairs program (HESA) was a life-changing experience where I learned the intricacies of student support inside and outside of the classroom. My graduate assistantship was support and retain BIPOC students in STEM, which is something that I have always been invested in as a former STEM student.I continue to share my story in hopes that students can identify and find affinity. And I hope to continue to build inclusive spaces for students to thrive and find success.
