About Maria van Pelt
As a Clinical Professor at Northeastern University, CRNA and a member of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF), I have dedicated my career to advancing patient safety, healthcare professional wellness and anesthesia education. With over 25 years of experience, it has been an honor to contribute significantly to the development and implementation of patient safety initiatives, peer support programs, and educational programs. My experience includes clinical practice, academic leadership, developing innovative curricula, mentoring students and faculty, and contributing to research in anesthesia safety and healthcare professional well-being. As a lifelong learner, I continually seek new knowledge and perspectives to enhance my practice, teaching, and leadership approach. Completing the American Heart Association-NPSF Comprehensive Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship Program provided invaluable opportunities to learn alongside dedicated colleagues committed to healthcare improvement. The honor of being named a Fellow in both the American Academy of Nursing and the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology reflects the collective wisdom, mentorship, and support provided by family, colleagues, students, and patients throughout this continuous learning journey. My mission is to empower healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and effective care while promoting wellness, increasing mental health awareness, and decreasing stigma in healthcare environments. I advocate for comprehensive approaches that support both healthcare professionals and patients, recognizing that healthcare professional well-being directly impacts patient outcomes and safety.
