ABOUT MARIA PIEDRA CASTILLO
I am a proud First-Generation college graduate and First-Generation Mexican American dedicated to advancing equity, access, and opportunity through public service and advocacy. As a recent graduate of UT Austin, my academic and professional experiences reflect a deep interest in policy, advocacy, and community engagement. My background has instilled in me a strong commitment to empowering underrepresented communities and ensuring that voices often left out of decision-making spaces are heard and valued.I have served as a Transition and Success Coach with UT Austin’s First Gen Longhorns program, providing mentorship and support to incoming students and helping to build a culture of success for first-generation scholars. I have also planned and executed large-scale community events, contributed to campus and national research initiatives, and supported equity-focused programming at organizations such as the Analyst Institute and the Division of Campus and Community Engagement.Through these roles, I have developed strengths in leadership, research, and communication, while always centering collaboration and service. I aspire to continue my work in public policy and advocacy, contributing to efforts that expand educational access, representation, and equity for historically marginalized communities.I am eager to connect with professionals, mentors, and organizations working at the intersections of policy, advocacy, and community impact, and I welcome opportunities to apply my skills in internships, research, and advocacy roles.
