About Maria Esteban Lopez

I am an enthusiastic, creative, result-oriented scientist who have worked in numerous laboratories and collaborative-work settings throughout my scientific and personal career.My career goal is to utilize the technical and interpersonal skills I acquired through my scientific training to design and develop novel therapeutics, biologics, and technologies that have the potential to transform health care and ultimately improve the lives of patients. A summary of my career achievements and skills:• Creative problem solver with project and time management abilities. I have worked on numerous projects across multiple disciplines. These projects range from neurodegenerative diseases to disorders of bone remodeling. I rapidly adapted and identified gaps in knowledge which I addressed resulting in 2 research publications.• Strong relationship builder with collaborative abilities. I worked with multi-disciplinary groups in the drug discovery field to drive projects forward in fast-paced environments. Most recently, I conducted my own project, in collaboration with groups in the NIH/NCATS, to develop and validate the biological activity of a first-in-class GPCR small molecule agonist as a drug candidate to treat osteoporosis, which resulted in 1 patent application.• Proficient communicator with scientific writing and mentorship skills. I have given 6 scientific presentations and authored 2 thesis. I have 2 years of experience as a teaching assistant and mentored 7 junior scientists. I also co-authored 5 review publications in collaboration with mentors and peers. • Attention to detail and result-oriented scientist with ability to produce high-quality data. I have experience in mammalian cell culture, cell-based functional assay development, TR-FRET (HTRF) high-throughput screening, cloning and site-directed mutagenesis, DNA/RNA and protein expression approaches, microscopy, animal handling including surgery, dosing, and necropsy, data analysis and interpretation.I love to travel, try new foods, and discover other cultures. I also enjoy running and hiking.
