The Office of Research and Development (ORD), within the Boston Police Department (BPD), supports BPD efforts to improve the quality of life and reduce crime for all Boston residents. Ms. Cheevers leads a staff of 7 in the development of up to 13 million dollars per year, while administering up to 24 million dollars per year, that support a wide range of public safety efforts, including but not limited to: youth and other violence prevention efforts, innovative community policing strategies, research/practitioner demonstration projects; mental health, substance use disorder, domestic violence, sexual assault and anti commercial sexual exploitation efforts. Below is an example of some of the current initiatives Ms. Cheevers supervises and/or leads directly: Boston\'s Citywide HUB Initiative - a community policing model that identifies and provides services to community residents that are at acutely elevated risk of a wide range of negative outcomes; The BPD\'s COVID Relief Trust Fund\'s Domestic Violence (DV) Initiative; providing two DV Advocates to support victims in 2 of Boston busiest police districts, serving up to 2,200 DV victims per year;Boston\'s BJA\'s Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI), leading a SAKI Multidisciplinary Working Group to improve practices, protocols and systems through multiple program components. In November 2023, Ms. Cheevers won a Commissioner\'s Citation for her work on this project;The MA Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) Safe and Successful Youth Initiative – a citywide youth violence prevention program targeting those young person’s most likely to be involved in gang and gun violence for intervention and diversion programming; andCo-Chair of the City of Boston’s CEASE Boston efforts from 20••••21; whose mission was to reduce commercial sexual exploitation through demand reduction, community education, mobilization and social norm change.
