SKILLS
ABOUT MARIA ALEJANDRA MATHEUS
I have broad experience in corporate, employment, commercial and civil law. I oriented my career towards the oil and gas industry gaining experience in operational legal support, JV agreements and companies, JOAs, PSCs, Ethics and Business Conduct, and an extensive variety of service contracts to support onshore & offshore operations. Having worked for O&G operators and oilfield service companies I have built a solid career characterized by an integral and strategic view of the business, strong work ethics, leadership and value-driven legal solutions. Currently, as Senior Ethics and Compliance Counsel for Europe and Africa I support the E&C Program, promote the highest standards of ethical business conduct, and provide expertise in compliance, audit and risk. For 8 years, I held positions as Managing Counsel responsible for providing operational legal support to Schlumberger in Venezuela, Trinidad & Tobago, the Caribbean and Continental Europe (30 countries). Before Schlumberger, I worked for ConocoPhillips in support of their businesses in Latin America but primarily with respect to the offshore projects in the Gulf of Paria (Exploration Risk & Cost Sharing Agreements), and for Petrozuata (a Joint Venture specialized in the exploitation of extra-heavy crude oil). During this time I focused my practice on analysis and interpretation of International Oil and Energy Agreements and laws, Port/Maritime Law; drafting of manuals, contract templates and related documentation; advising on contracting processes; negotiating service contracts and employment insurance policies; advising on and developing of corporate policies and procedures; and advising on civil, mercantile and labour matters. I actively participated in discussions and drafting of law amendments and regulations bills, and had also performed as Professor Assistant at the Management of Engineering Projects’ Graduate School. PDVSA/CIED - UCAB for the course “Contracting and Negotiations in Projects”.
