ABOUT MARGIT 博曼歌 BURMEISTER
Geneticist with 35 years experience in academia (genetics, neuroscience, psychiatry, bioinformatics) now getting involved in scientific consulting. Particularly interested in empowering individuals to take control of their health using wearable data, blood markers and genetics. Studied in Biochemistry at the Free University Berlin, Germany, and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. Ph.D. in 1987 in Molecular Human Genetics from the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg for work performed at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Germany with Hans Lehrach. After postdoctoral training with Rick Myers and David Cox at UCSF, she came to the University of Michigan in 1991 as Assistant Professor of the Neuroscience institute with appointents in Human Genetics and Psychiatry, now Associate Chair and Grad chair in Computational Medicine & Bioinformatics. Worked on Gene identification in neurogenetic diseases, particularly ataxia, and on gene x environment interactions regarding depression and addictions. Learned Mandarin to non-professional level and for the past 15 years has spent 1-4 months a year in China.
