About Margaret Wakefield

I am a senior at Rhodes College studying Political Science and International Studies with a strong interest in national security, technology policy, and public service. Through internships with congressional campaigns, legal offices, nonprofit advocacy groups, and tech policy fellowships, I’ve developed skills in legislative analysis, policy research, strategic writing, and stakeholder communication. These experiences, combined with coursework on security studies and a senior research project on polarization in U.S. cybersecurity legislation, have shaped my commitment to understanding how emerging technologies, governance challenges, and geopolitical tensions intersect.Whether analyzing federal cybersecurity and surveillance authorities, drafting policy briefs, or engaging with elected officials and community partners, I bring professionalism, attention to detail, and a bipartisan, solutions-oriented mindset. My long-term goal is to work in the national security policy space, on Capitol Hill, in a federal agency, or within a research institution, advancing strategies that strengthen democratic governance, protect critical infrastructure, and improve U.S. resilience in an increasingly complex security environment.
