In my current position as a Data Analyst, I work on the Staffing R&D team in the claims department. In my role, my primary responsibility so far has been to conduct and analyze results from times studies. To conduct these time studies, we ask data collectors to virtually sit with reps throughout their day and collect data with a form in Excel. Once the data as been collected, they would submit the data and from there my team and I would you this data for analysis. During my time handling this process, I created a new form for collecting time study data to ensure ease of use, preserve data integrity, and reduce bottle necks. This form utilized VBA, dependent dropdowns, and conditional formatting. I also improved our data drop using HTML and Python, by adding a validation functionality to the time study data-drop webpage. This restricted upload submissions to files with specific naming conventions and file extensions. In addition, I added automated tracking of submitted file names using an excel check list. This simplified the process for data collectors and saved many work hours in aggregate. To train our 30+ data collectors, I created a PowerPoint about how to peer review one another’ time study data. I presented this PowerPoint and answered questions to ensure all participants felt comfortable with the process.After we received all the data files from the data collectors I wrote analysis reports to convey findings, highlighting important pieces of data through data visualization, paying close attention to unexpected and previously unexplored findings. These reports helped the staffing R&D team understand the average work effort of claims reps in order to better predict the most efficient number of reps for each state. Using SAS, cleaned and processed multiple data sets to create tables and graphs for the analysis reports.
