About Maren Moegel

I believe that good design can improve people\'s lives. Placemaking: Public urban spaces on any scale from street corner to districts, when well-designed and inviting to everyone, can create a positive and inclusionary community experience for people of all walks of life. As an urban designer and architect, I am passionate about cities and urbanism. Cities are fascinating evolving organisms. Today’s social, environmental, and technological forces are making their evolution more unpredictable and uncertain than ever. It is a huge challenge to reverse income inequality that is distorting the demographics of our cities. Climate change is demanding solutions for more resilient design. The tech world of the Silicon Valley is disrupting all aspects of life. It is an exciting yet enormously challenging time to be urban designer, and I see it as my responsibility to contribute to making our world a thriving and long-lasting place to live in. I work on all scales from urban plazas or city blocks to neighborhoods and entire districts. My process involves: Making strategic decisions, balancing long-term goals and visions for the future, with short-term benefits, economic feasibility, zoning and code compliance. Collaborating closely with all stakeholders: understanding developer clients’ economic realities, cities’ vision and land use goals, as well as community concerns Finding viable solutions that are feasible to build today, while laying ground for developing into a lively urban mixed-use district in the future. Teaming up with transportation experts, site and construction engineers, and landscape designers. Incorporating some of their knowledge into my repertoire. Inspirational leader of design teams, author site design and architecture concepts Managing planning application processes efficiently, while meeting quality expectations.
