ABOUT MARCUS TYLDSLEY

In 2016, after over 14 years working for KPMG, latterly as a director, I made the move into industry and joined a great family business in Barrett Steel. Barrett Steel was a company I had been introduced to 3 years before joining to turn the relationship around (!), and one which has an excellent brand and standing in the Yorkshire market place. There are fantastic people across the business and a culture where you are encouraged to say what you think and be yourself. The first year allowed me to get to grips with the group\'s strategy, how the business operates, the people we have in place whilst also disposing of a non-core business and completing a £90m refinancing. The second year had a clear focus on people. Ensuring that we work collaboratively, consistently and get together to share ideas and increase quality. It was also a time for establishing the right skill sets in place and developing talent and succession within the Group. Following this the focus has been on enhancing and refining our procedures and reporting through the use of automation and data.As a Group Board member I am also involved in all strategic initiatives and planning for the Group. I have completed 5 acquisitions in the past 6 years to expand the groups geographical reach and processing capability. These included the Shoreham based port and processing facility from John Parker, the distribution businesses from British Steel, the distribution and bright drawing divisions of Aartee Bright Bar and our first business in Europe, Duggan Steel (IRL). I have taken on responsibility gradually throughout my time with the Group and now have responsibility and direct reports across all aspects of Accounting and Reporting, Banking and Treasury, Payroll, IT, MI, Central Functions, Property, Legal and Insurance. I am also Chairman for 6 business units. I thoroughly enjoy the role and look forward to the challenges that the next few years will inevitably bring. The background to my skillset was largely created through my time at KPMG where I- Was an experienced director specialising in the audits of private and listed groups- Had experience of acquisitions, disposals, Main to Aim listings, debt advisory, rights issues and class 1 transactions- Had significant experience of audit proposals and tendering - Carried out all aspects of budgeting, management accounts, forecasting, staff allocation and appraisals- Gained significant experience within the Restructuring department during 20••••10
