About Marcus Smetka

I am a member of the Intellectual Property Group at Howard and Howard, practicing out of the Royal Oak office. My practice focuses on advising individuals and/or businesses in intellectual property matters primarily in the mechanical and electromechanical technology spaces. I have extensive experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. and International patent applications in the technology areas of automotive, agriculture implements, home appliances, and medical devices. I also have experience drafting written opinions relating to patentability, non-infringement, and invalidity of existing patents. I am a graduate of the University of New Hampshire School of Law, formerly known as the Franklin Pierce Law Center, with a JD and LLM in Intellectual Property. I also have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Saginaw Valley State University (University Center, MI). I am currently admitted to practice in the State of North Carolina, the State of Iowa, and before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
