ABOUT MARCUS KUNZE

As Managing Director of the HiSERV Workshops at BER and LEJ, I oversee business development, the expansion of maintenance services, and the exploration of new markets. My role is focused on driving innovation and ensuring operational excellence in our workshops.Previously, at DHL Hub Leipzig GmbH, I worked as Workstream Leader Operations for the apron extension project, overseeing the development of 36 new apron stands. I was responsible for managing airside infrastructure, as well as implementing organizational and process adjustments to support the expanded ramp operations. Before that, I served as Duty Manager Ramp, where I oversaw all ground handling aircraft services and ensured the on-time turnaround of freighter aircraft. Additionally, I contributed to the strategic development of airside infrastructure to support operational growth. Before my sabbatical, I held the roles of Manager Compliance & Planning and Deputy Head of Airside Safety & Compliance at Cologne Bonn Airport until 2017. As Project Leader for EASA Certification, I was responsible for managing and implementing the EU Regulation 139/2014. I led the project across all three key areas: organization, operations (OPS), and infrastructure (CS). In collaboration with the local CAA, I developed the operational and certification framework for the airport.Earlier in my career, I worked as an airport planner at Cologne Bonn Airport, where I focused on developing airside infrastructure to meet current needs. I was also responsible for designing aprons and taxiway markings in compliance with ICAO, EASA, and national regulations.I am a German Diploma Engineer (equivalent to a Master of Engineering), having studied Transportation Planning and Management at Dresden University of Technology. My academic focus was on Transportation Systems Engineering and Logistics, with a specialization in aviation. For my diploma thesis, I published a study on \"Competition Between Neighbor Airports\" at the Lufthansa Systems department for network management. My project thesis analyzed apron capacity at an airport with seasonal operational effects.During my studies, I gained international experience as an intern with Airbus Operations in Toulouse, France, working with the A380 Conformance Management team, and as a trainee with Fraport Saudi Arabia at Jeddah Airport, Saudi Arabia. After six years of academic and practical experiences worldwide in the aviation sector, I am highly qualified to work on all aspects of airport operations, aviation strategy, and logistics.
