ABOUT MARCO KELLHAMMER
I’m a designer and researcher working at the intersection of systems thinking, sustainability, and social innovation – with a passion for enabling futures-oriented change through participatory and systemic design. Navigating between disciplines with one foot in research and the other in practice, I often work across the fields of design, innovation, and urban transformation. My expertise lies in making sense of complexity, designing for public value, and opening up new possibilities in times of transition. Over the past years, I’ve developed a strong foundation in Transition Design, Systems Oriented Design, and design for innovation. At the Institute of Design Research Vienna, I contributed to developing sustainable design approaches across learning formats. I facilitated co-design and participatory innovation processes with civil society actors. I’m also co-founder of überkochen e.V, an initiative combining nutrition education and design to create inspiring and inclusive, hands-on learning environments in schools. At the Technical University of Munich, my work has centred on Transition Design and Urban Design, allowing me to develop a strong set of methods and practical skills. I am finalising my PhD, exploring how Transition Design can drive sustainable mobility transformations in urban spaces, with the goal of shaping more livable and equitable cities. I’m open to new opportunities and collaborations that focus on systemic innovation, sustainability transitions, and design for societal impact – especially in contexts where design helps navigate complexity and create meaningful change.
