ABOUT MARCO GIALLOMBARDO

Scopus: h-index 16 / citations Born in Palermo, Italy in 1988. He studied at the University of Palermo achieving a BSc in Biomedical Biotechnologies in 2011, acquiring a vast knowledge in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering. Thereafter, in 2013, he obtained a MSc in Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine performing in depth studies on Cell Culture, Exosomes from conditional media and body fluids (saliva, plasma, serum), Microvesicles, Proteomics and Epigenetic. His previous dissertations, one on expression and purification of a fusion protein GST-Strim and the other on Proteomic profiling of MDX mice quadriceps after aerobic exercise and his personal inclination, gave him a strong background regarding the research activity. In 2014 his project “Role of exosomes released by chronic myelogenous leukemia cells in the cross-talk with the tumor microenvironment” has led him to win an International PhD student position for Experimental Oncology and Surgery and a PON grant. In the same year he achieved the Senior Biologist License and the European License for animal in vivo experimentation. He finished his doctoral program, carrying on a research period abroad (Belgium - Prof Christian Rolfo) working on exosomes and ctdna from patient’s plasma, focusing in their role in tumor microenvironment and in their exploitable features of novel promising liquid biopsy tool! This research already resulted in several publications as Papers, Posters, Abstracts and Book Chapters. His deep fascination for biotechnologies and human biology led him to a regular improvement of his knowledges and qualification through seminaries, workshops and congresses. He achieved the International PhD title in Experimental Oncology and Surgery (Italy) and in Medical sciences (Belgium) on March 2017. From May 2017 he worked at Roche Diagnostics as Customer Application Specialist in Ventana Tissue and cancer Diagnostics (Benchmark Ultra - DP200 Navify - uPath- Digital Pathology) in almost all the pathology units in Sicilia and Calabria regions. From 2022 he worked at the same company as Medical Science Liaison and from January 2023 as Customer Experience Manager.
