ABOUT MARCO CARPENTI

As a child, I possessed a natural affinity for drawing, assuming that everyone could draw proficiently. Unaware of the distinctions in artistic abilities, I established a routine of regular drawing, encompassing caricatures, portraits of schoolmates, landscapes, comics, and, notably, architectural sketches. My preferred canvas was often the reverse side of my school notebooks. Upon entering university, my drawing style evolved into one characterized by precision and order. I honed the skill of maintaining meticulous organization, treating drawings and ideas with the same systematic approach as one would arrange books in a library. While architecture is undeniably a mental process of planning, the hand that translates these plans into a tangible project is intricately connected to the mind, more so than through computer software. The ability to draw by hand, therefore, remains a crucial differentiator. It saddens me to observe that the contemporary landscape no longer emphasizes the skill of freehand drawing. Despite being a unique gift possessed by few, its significance seems to have waned. Nevertheless, I persist in my daily drawing endeavors, capturing everything and anything. In my view, an architect is someone adept at blending the past, present, and yet-to-be-invented, transforming these elements into tangible projects. Being an architect, to me, entails providing services that extend beyond the physical structure to encompass the space within and its surrounding environment. This process aims to establish a profound connection with the environment, with the ultimate goal of creating spaces meant to be inhabited or utilized by humanity.
