About Marcin Piatkowski

I am Professor of Economics at Kozminski University in Warsaw, the highest ranked business school in Central and Eastern Europe, Lead Economist for South Asia at the World Bank\'s Finance, Competititiveness, and Innovation (FCI) Global Practice, where I lead the Bank\'s support to the governments of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Maldives to promote private sector development, and a guest lecturer at Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management, the highest ranked business school in China.During 2024-25, I was a Program Leader in the World Bank office in India, where I coordinated four departments: macroeconomics, private and financial sector development, governance and institutions, and poverty and equity.During 2017-24, I supported China as a Lead Economist at the World Bank’s FCI department, including 4 years in Beijing. Earlier, I have worked with the governments of Viet Nam, Mongolia, The Philippines, Ukraine, Moldova, Latvia, Czechia, Armenia, South Korea, and Poland. Before the World Bank, I was Chief Economist/Managing Director of PKO BP, the largest bank in Central and Eastern Europe, economist in the European Department of the IMF and Advisor to IMF\'s Executive Director. I also served as Advisor to Poland\'s Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance. Between I worked in corporate banking in Poland and in the USA, becoming Senior Manager in Citibank Poland. I hold a Ph.D. and habilitation in Economics from Kozminski University and M.A. in Finance and Banking summa cum laude from the Warsaw School of Economics. I was a visiting scholar at Harvard University, OECD Development Centre and London Business School. I wrote a book on \"Europe\'s Growth Champion: Insights from the Economic Rise of Poland\", published by Oxford University Press in 2018/2025. It won a national book competition sponsored by the National Bank of Poland for the \"Best Book in Economic Education in 2020\" and was awarded the prize of the \"Best Book in Economics in 2019\" by the Polish Academy of Sciences. The book was endorsed by the world’s top economists, reviewed by the Financial Times and translated into Polish, Chinese and Ukrainian. In 2023, I was awarded the prize of the “Economist of the Year” from the Polish Association of Employers and Entrepreneurs.In 2009, I developed the concept of Poland’s Golden Age, which since has become mainstream.I tweet at @mmpiatkowski.
