ICAN, a Platinum-ranked 501(c)(3) cancer organization headquartered in Phoenix, is led by an energized board and a small staff working with a 300-plus global volunteer network. ICAN focuses on direct patient navigation, molecular profiling, clinical trials, compassionate use/expanded access, global access issues, and state, federal, and international public policy advocacy.I also lead the Exon 20 Group, an international multi-stakeholder coalition of patients, care partners, oncologists, molecular pathologists, lab executives, and pharma/biotech companies, seeking to convert NSCLC EGFR exon 20 insertions and HER2 exon 20 insertions into chronic diseases. I have served on IRBs for 13 years (3 yrs on Banner MD Anderson\'s Oncology Panel and 10 years on the Banner Health IRB). I am a member of SWOG’s Early Therapeutics/Rare Cancers Committee. I chaired DIA\'s Patient Engagement Community for three years and was a Patient Editor for its Global Forum magazine. I have served on ASCO\'s TAPUR Study Molecular Tumor Board since its inception.I oversee ICAN’s Personalized Medicine Navigation Programs, research advocacy, and intellectual property, working closely with experts on ICAN\'s boards and councils on board governance, health information technology, lobbying and legislation, and strategic planning. ABOUT MARCIA HORN
As CEO of ICAN, I lead a high-impact organization that provides comprehensive information, advocacy, and empowerment services to Stage IV cancer patients in the U.S.+ 83 countries. I enjoyed many years of board leadership positions in the nonprofit sector during my law career. Ensconced in the war against cancer since 1996, I have a passion for advancing biomarker-driven personalized medicine/precision oncology and accelerating global patient access. At ICAN, I specialize in direct patient navigation, referrals to the most appropriate specialists, molecular testing connections, and clinical trials accrual and retention. I am proud to work with the ever-resourceful Sherry Weinstein, who chairs the ICAN board, as well as a top-notch team of leaders who share ICAN\'s mission and vision.Since 2017, I have also served as the Executive Director of the Exon 20 Group, a pan-tumor, multi-stakeholder biomarker support group that seeks to transform two rare mutations into chronic diseases for our EGFR Exon 20 Warriors and our HER2 Warriors. Working closely with the tireless chair of the Exon 20 Group, Robert T. Hanlon, PhD, we leverage expertise in biomarkers, clinical trials matching, and expanded access to facilitate collaboration and innovation among patients, care partners, oncologists, molecular pathologists, labs, and biotech and pharma partners. ICAN\'s Exon 20 International Research Consortium is working to turn NSCLC EGFR Exon 20 insertion-mutated lung cancer and NSCLC HER2 Exon 20 insertion-mutated/HER2 lung cancer into manageable diseases.Since Fall 2023, I have chaired both the Biomarker Collaborative (pan-tumor/pan-heme) and the MET Crusaders (MET exon 14 skipping/MET amplifications/MET overexpression), with the goal of implementing the mission, vision, values, and programs in memory of my dear friend John Hallick who founded both organizations. We also run the PD-L1 Amplifieds (CD274+). At AACR 2025, ICAN announced the NRG1 Energizers (NRG1 fusion positive lung/pancreatic).ICAN pursues multistakeholder collaborations in all we do. I am the research advocate for SWOG\'s Early Therapeutics/Rare Cancers Committee, chaired by Razelle Kurzrock, MD. I have served for more than eight years on ASCO\'s TAPUR Molecular Tumor Board. I have served on a major IRB for 13 years with often primary reviewer status for oncology clinical trials and expanded access. I am one of the four research advocates for the NCI Lung SPORE of UT Southwestern and MD Anderson. I served on two Stand Up to Cancer Dream Teams involving lung and colon cancers (20••••21).
