I am Drilling Application Engineer specialized in using data science to conduct in-depth drilling performance analysis, bit and BHA design-modeling and coaching-mentoring. Upon receiving my mechanical engineering degree, I began my career as drilling design engineer at INTEVEP, the Venezuelan oil industry’s R&D organization where I used software to apply engineering concepts to understand the complex drilling environment. This role allowed me to explore the boundaries of drilling optimization through the deployment of the latest technologies. During this period, I also completed a MSc in Drilling Engineering.Baker Hughes recruited me for its OASIS Drilling Optimization Team where I became interested in applied data science in drilling and knowledge capture. We took on very interesting projects in multidisciplinary teams, working on complex problems that required advanced analytics and deployment of state-of-the-art technology while acquiring significant field experience. After 14 years at Baker Hughes, I was hired by the Drilformance start-up in the Middle East as technical advisor. This new challenge allowed me work in a largely unscripted environment, explore new technical skills and expand my scope of the business. I was also able to make significant contributions to the company’s engineering capabilities worldwide, taking on the role of mentor-coach to local talent and creating a career path that allowed for a sustainable way to develop talent.Over my career, I have acquired extensive knowledge of drilling applications in the oil and gas industry, and have held diverse technical, consultant and management roles worldwide. I have learned to adapt quickly to a wide variety of situations in both well-established organizations and small firms, including start-ups. These experiences have strengthened my leadership and people skills.
