ABOUT MARC ROTHERMICH
I am an Orthopaedic Surgeon practicing in Birmingham, Alabama. Through my extensive medical training I have learned both general surgical and complex sports medicine techniques. I have a particular interest in elbow reconstruction in overhead athletes, rotator cuff repairs, complex knee surgery and total joint replacement. At Andrews Sports Medicine, I have been able to pioneer new medical technology and am one of only two Orthopaedic Surgeons in Birmingham, Alabama who has been extensively trained to utilize Zimmer Biomet\'s ROSA® Robotic Knee System for total knee replacements. In early 2023, I was the first surgeon in the world to utilize the Microsoft HoloLens® virtual reality goggles in a sports medicine surgical procedure. I believe that all patients, from recreational “weekend warriors” to elite athletes, deserve and should expect a high attention to detail and a shared decision making process to optimize their outcomes.I have had the opportunity to serve as a member of the medical teams for various institutions and organizations. I currently serve as team physician for the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL, the Birmingham Squadron of the NBA G-League, Samford University, and Hewitt-Trussville High School. I previously provided on-site medical coverage for the New York Mets and their minor league affiliate Port St. Lucie Mets, Troy University, SEC Baseball Tournament, Birmingham Barons, Birmingham Ballet, and Mountain Brook High School. In addition to my medical training and surgical practice, I am also pursuing an Executive MBA from the Auburn Harbert College of Business and will graduate in Spring 2024. This training will allow me to contribute to my practice and hospital organization both in the clinic and the boardroom.I am a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) as well as the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), serving on the committee that writes the annual Self-Assessment Examination for the AOSSM. In addition, I serve as Alabama\'s representative in the Council of Delegates for AOSSM and have been selected to participate in a leadership development program with AOSSM called Boosting Orthopaedic Leaders\' Development (BOLD). I review grant applications for the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) and am a peer reviewer for multiple orthopedic journals. I have presented nationally and my research is published in several peer-reviewed medical journals and textbooks.
