ABOUT MARC D.
I am a Social Science graduate with a Master’s conversion degree in Psychology, currently completing the COSCA Counselling and Psychotherapy Certificate. My academic and professional journey reflects a strong commitment to understanding human behaviour, mental health, and the social contexts that shape individual wellbeing. My undergraduate degree in Social Science provided a broad and critical understanding of inequality, social structures, and the impact of life experiences on mental health. This foundation led me to pursue postgraduate training in Psychology, where I developed a solid grounding in psychological theory, research methods, and ethical practice, with a particular interest in mental health, trauma, and applied psychology.I am currently developing practical counselling skills through the COSCA Counselling and Psychotherapy Certificate. This training has strengthened my ability to work in a person-centred, reflective, and ethical way, with a strong emphasis on empathy, active listening, professional boundaries, and self-awareness.Alongside my studies, I volunteer with Victim Support Scotland, supporting individuals affected by crime during periods of distress and vulnerability. This role has deepened my understanding of trauma-informed practice and reinforced the importance of empowerment, choice, and non-judgemental support.I also work as a Customer Experience Assistant with East Ayrshire Leisure, where I engage with a diverse range of people on a daily basis. This role has developed my communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, particularly in managing sensitive or challenging interactions calmly and professionally.I am passionate about working ethically and compassionately within the helping professions and am motivated to continue developing my skills in counselling and psychotherapy. I am particularly interested in roles that support mental health, wellbeing, and recovery, and that value reflective practice and social awareness
