About Marc Anderson
A couple of years ago, I retired as Chair the Environmental Chemistry and Technology Program. Currently I work as a consultant and former head of the Energy Storage Group of the IMDEA Energia Institute in Madrid Spain I am a member of the American Chemical Society, The Electrochemical Society and the American Society for the Advancement of Science. I serve on various science review panels for the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy as well for Singapore and the European Community. I have published > 250 scientific papers, hold 25 patents and have a Hirsch Index of 78. My area of expertise is colloid and interfacial science and this expertise is being used to produce nanoporous thin-films of oxides for a variety of applications including ceramic membranes for battery separators, energy dense supercapacitors, and the enhanced production of hydrogen at lower over-voltages through electrolysis without using platinum or other noble metals. Our nanoporous TiO2 transparent thin-films were used to create the original and now famous “Graetzel - Dye Sensitized Solar Cell.” We have recently submitted patents on third generation supercapacitors using nanoporous SiO2 thin-films on carbon substrates that improve specific capacitance in all carbon materials. These nanoporous coatings are also being used to store energy and desalinate water in novel capacitative deionization systems. Due to this expertise and background, I was invited to lead the newly formed IMDEA Energia group dedicated to the storage of energy from renewable resources. In this group, we focus on flow-batteries, metal air batteries, high-energy supercapacitors and new systems for producing hydrogen. In Madison I am involved with two companies. MOST and Ur-Water. The former is in the business of preparing and selling suspensions of nanoparticulate oxides for a variety of applications. Ur-Water is devoted to the capacitive treatment of water
