About Marc Allard
Marc W. Allard received his Ph.D. in biology in 1990 from Harvard University. Dr. Allard was the Louis Weintraub Associate Professor of Biology (and Genetics) at George Washington University (Washington, DC) for 14 years from 1994 to 2008. He has held appointments for 8 years with the Visiting Scientists Program both at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Counterterrorism and Forensic Science Research Unit (CTFSRU) and in the Chem-Bio. Sciences Unit (CBSU), where he assisted in the anthrax investigations as well as in human genetics data-basing. Dr. Allard joined the Division of Microbiology in FDA’s Office of Regulatory Science in 2008 where he uses Whole Genome Sequencing of foodborne pathogens to identify and characterization outbreaks of bacterial strains, particularly Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria. Dr. Allard was recently promoted to Senior Biomedical Research Services and he specializes in both phylogenetic analysis, as well as the biochemical laboratory methods which generate this genetic information. To read more about FDA’s Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria genomics efforts see: Genometrakr network where we have released unpublished draft genomes for food safety into the SRA database.
