About Mara Jevera Fulmer

Service to the college is a high priority for me and I contribute in a variety of ways. As Chair for The MCC Council, and now also the Teaching & Learning Council (Fall \'22), we focus on creating systemic diversity, equity, and inclusion, supporting student success and removing barriers to students\' achievement of their educational goals. In 2021, we received the President’s Service Award for our work in this area.In May 2022, I received the Faculty Member of the Year award at AACC\'s NYC conference. It is a newly created category in AACC\'s Awards of Excellence recognizing faculty whose careers demonstrate both service to the college and dedication to student success.For more than a year, I served as Interim Assistant VP for Academic Affairs, and returned to my role as Faculty Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning before turning it over to others. I\'ve served as Pathways Coordinator, and conduct work supporting HLC accreditation. Prior to my role as IASVP, I was Faculty Director for the Center for Teaching & Learning and former Program Coordinator and original developer of Graphic Design program. Other achievements include: Doctorate in Community College Leadership from Ferris State University with a focus on connections between Creative Arts and Innovation in the STEM fields and student success; Fulbright Specialist grant recipient in Ekaterinburg, Russia (May 2012) taught course in Cultural Journalism, titled Artistic Intersections with Society and Politics, at the Ekaterinburg Academy of Contemporary Art. Consulted on curriculum development, and presented talk on Cultural Journalism Beyond Entertainment.As a professional graphic designer, writer, artist for over 40 years, I\'ve served as a full-time educator since 1997. Prior positions include: Art Director/Snr Graphic Artist at The University of the South Pacific (USP) in Suva, Fiji (19••••97); Art Director at the University at Albany/SUNY (19••••91); Production Supervisor at National Trade Publications (1983-86).
