About Manya Kadiwala
I’m a junior at Purdue University working at the intersection of fermentation, microbial cultures, and food ingredient R&D. I’m particularly interested in how microbial systems can be designed, optimized, and scaled to create functional, consumer-relevant ingredients.My experience spans hands-on microbiology and fermentation work, analytical characterization, and bioprocess modeling from lab-scale experiments to thinking about scale-up and process efficiency. I’ve worked on fermentation-driven beverage and ingredient concepts, microbial growth and kinetics modeling, and quality-focused lab environments.Beyond the lab, I actively translate complex biological systems into clear, usable insights, whether through research communication, sensory-driven product thinking, or technical storytelling in food and fermentation spaces.I’m currently seeking R&D, fermentation, and bioprocess development internships where I can contribute to culture development, ingredient innovation, and fermentation-based product design, while continuing to deepen my technical foundation.

Designed and executed small-scale fermentation trials for beverage and ingredient concepts, monitoring variables such as substrate composition, fermentation time, and sensory outcomes- Worked with microbial cultures relevant to food fermentation, supporting inoculation, handling, and fermentation consistency- Evaluated fermentation outputs through sensory observation and basic analytical checks to inform formulation and process adjustments- Assisted in iterative product development, connecting microbial behavior with flavor, texture, and functional properties- Documented fermentation processes and outcomes to support process reproducibility and scale-up discussions- Secured 2nd place at Purdue’s New Venture Challenge and raised $35k pre-seed funding, validating both the science and business model
