Dr. Garcia-Leiner’s research and professional interests include structure-property relationships and processing of polymeric systems. His areas of focus include melt processing, polymer composites, nanocomposite systems, high-performance polymers, polymer rheology, polymeric foams, and solvent assisted polymer processing. During the course of his career Dr. Garcia-Leiner has developed and evaluated industrial materials used for building and construction, aerospace, oil and gas, electronics and displays, point of purchase, signs, tire and rubber, food packaging, medical, and alternative energy technologies such as wind and photovoltaic applications. Dr. Garcia-Leiner has extensive practical experience in traditional polymer processing applications such as extrusion, co-extrusion, injection molding, compression molding, rotational molding, fiber spinning, and thermoforming. In addition, his experience includes novel processing techniques including additive manufacturing, high performance composites processing (thermoplastics and thermosets) as well as development, formulation and processing of polymeric systems with unique optical properties. He is proficient in a variety of analytical techniques particularly thermal, mechanical, and rheological characterization of polymers. Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Garcia-Leiner spent eight and a half years in the polymer/plastics industry at Arkema where he held several research and development positions among various business units.
