Impact Assessment of interventions by Barefoot College International (BCI) in India The International Solar Engineer Training Program (Solar Mamas) was initiated by the Barefoot College. It targets disenfranchised women from non-electried villages around the world. More than rural women in India have been trained and hundreds of villages have been electried with solar power. Besides imparting technical know-how, the training program also builds women’s capacities in autonomy, independence and self-reliance. Through its more recent initiative called ‘Women Prosperity Initiative’, the program focuses on to build microenterprise and livelihood skills, and knowledge on women’s health, environmental stewardship and human rights. The outcome evaluation will examine the results of Solar Electrification Program and its sub- initiative Women Prosperity Initiative. The evaluation uses a non-experimental design to assess the effectiveness, impact, sustainability lessons learned, and economic rate of return of the solar program. The evaluation will cover four sample states.
