As a Technical Advisor (Community Forestry), I play a pivotal role in the Rai Matak (Green Lands) Programme: Carbon Sequestration for Timor-Leste, a Gold Standard-certified smallholder carbon forestry initiative. My work focuses on guiding the project through the Gold Standard Certification process, ensuring compliance with rigorous carbon sequestration and sustainability standards. Additionally, I contribute to the development of a seed strategy, supporting long-term afforestation and reforestation efforts.Key Responsibilities: Gold Standard Certification Support – Assist in navigating the Gold Standard requirements, ensuring the project’s compliance with afforestation/reforestation (A/R) methodologies and safeguarding principles. Seed Strategy Development – Design and implement a comprehensive seed strategy to enhance tree survival rates and biodiversity, ensuring sustainable carbon sequestration. Technical Advisory – Provide expertise on community forestry best practices, land-use planning, and greenhouse gas (GHG) sequestration methodologies. Stakeholder Engagement – Work closely with local NGOs, farmers, and global sustainability partners to promote community-driven reforestation initiatives. Project Monitoring & Reporting – Support carbon stock assessments, GIS mapping, and validation/verification processes for Gold Standard certification.
