ABOUT MANIK MITRA

As a Managing Engineer I’m leading and managing a team of stormwater professionals to oversee various aspects of the drainage infrastructure within the City of Houston jurisdiction. I work closely with representatives internal and external to the Department and City to address existing drainage issues as well as to provide input into stormwater infrastructure improvement projects. More specifically my day to day responsibilities are: 1. Establish or update policies, procedures, guidelines, and stormwater standard details and specifications.2. Act as liaison to the other departments, government agencies and the private sector.3. Develop and interprets codes, ordinances, design & construction standards and specifications. Collaborate with others in the development of innovative solutions to help improve drainage functionality in the City with stormwater rehabilitation and water resource management programs and promotion of drainage and environment educational initiatives.5. Respond to sensitive inquiries and complaints from both external and internal stakeholders regarding drainage related matters.6. Provide critical input to proposed modifications or improvements that would impact the City’s stormwater infrastructure and its functionality.7. Provide stormwater engineering expert support to all internal staff/groups and for emergency and recovery operations as needed.8. Lead stormwater studies, plan and drainage analysis reviews, and public outreach efforts as needed.9. Establish design standards and consistent analysis & implementation practices for the City’s stormwater programs (Storm Water Action Team SWAT, Local Drainage Program LDP, Street & Drainage Rehabilitation, CIP, others).10. Work with staff on strategic goals, defining objectives and meeting those goals through defined metrics.
