About Manik Kumar
Manik is an engineering leader with 15+ years’ experience in leading software development teams to deliver growth and innovation. Manik is an expert in supply chain and transportation optimization, solving NP Hard problems through novel highly scalable techniques that have reduced Amazon\'s transportation cost by multi-billion dollars. Currently, Manik leads the technology and optimization for Amazon’s Surface Transportation that includes all the Amazon Managed movements for trucks, IM and Sea. Manik is responsible for reducing the cost of running the Amazon Managed freight network through routing efficiency, supply (driver-type) optimization and equipment (trailer, tractor) re-balancing. He leads an organization of 400 engineers, product/program, and scientist focused on building highly scalable systems that process billions of supply and routing options on a daily basis to find the lowest execution cost. Manik is the co-inventor of the Amazon\'s latest freight routing and supply optimization algorithms and systems that enable Amazon to operate as one of the most efficient carriers in the industry. Manik has technical leadership experience working through all legs of order fulfillment from inventory procurement to last mile delivery. Manik has built and delivered a brand new inventory placement system, an order fulfillment optimization system using a novel technique, an inventory re-balancing system and finally built a platform for automation of Amazon\'s Sales & Operations planning that drives downstream labor and transportation planning. Manik spent more than a year on an international assignment building a tech org for Amazon\'s Last Mile expansion in the emerging markets in Asia and also led the technical integration plan of Amazon and Souq\'s Last Mile integration. Manik incubated the technical organization, built and launched multiple market specific feature for the Amazon Flex delivery applications, helping expand Amazon\'s sales through a robust internal delivery network.
