ABOUT MALLORY RUKHSANA NEZAM
It\'s an important time to be a thoughtful, strategic thinker considering how the world is changing, how your field is changing, and how to adjust to stay true to your goals and balance reality. That\'s where I come in.As a cultural strategist and consultant, I bring together experience in urban planning, public art, strategic planning, systems thinking, facilitation, communication strategy, leadership coaching and policy. I work with government agencies, non-profits, for-profits, leaders and creatives. Through my cross-sector practice, Justice + Joy, I engage stakeholders across sectors to de-silo the way we run cities and build new models of creative, interdisciplinary collaboration. I specialize in building artist-in-residence in government programs and educating people about this national practice (check out my team at CAIRLab.net). I have worked with organizations like the Metropolitan Area Planning Council of Boston, Transportation for America, PolicyLink, NeighborWorks America, Atlanta Regional Commission, Forecast Public Art, PBS POV, The County of Mariposa, California, Great Rivers Greenway, National Arts Strategies and more. I also help make larger things happen in my cross-sectoral field, helping to organize field-wide programming, create connections between practitioners, and write about field practices where I see gaps & opportunities. I hold a Master of Design in Art, Design & The Public Domain from Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Occidental University. I was a 2024 Regents Lecturer at UCLA, a 2020 Monument Lab Transnational Fellow, a 20••••20 inaugural Practices for Change Fellow at Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute of Design & the Arts, a 2018 National Arts Strategies Creative Community Fellow, 2018 Research Artist-in-Residence at PolicyLink, the inaugural Arts & Culture Fellow at MAPC from 20••••18 and a 2012 Community Arts Training Institute Fellow. I serve on the Steering Committee for PHEAL (Planning for Health Equity, Advocacy & Leadership), an Advisor for WeRise Cultural Production, Board Member for Midwest Artist Project Services. I\'ve served on juries for the National Endowment for the Arts, California Creative Corps, Enterprise Community Partners & more.I speak internationally, including keynoting, and regularly provide trainings, facilitation and workshops upon request.I\'m also a practicing public and civic artist where I use play to disarm in public space, forging social connections between segregated groups.
