ABOUT MALLORY LONG
I am passionate about assisting others who are in need of kindness, knowledge, patience, and tolerance that comes from years of experience in the mental health and addiction treatment fields. My recovery belief/principle that guides my work for a client is \"I will seek to understand you and what is important to YOU. Understanding yourself and accepting yourself is the true task. It takes work but it is worth it.\" I am a skilled counselor, group facilitator, lecturer, case manager, utilization reviewer, spiritual counselor, marketer and public speaker. I utilize modalities of counseling at times that are not based in \"talk therapy\" as giving the physiological body new avenues to accept recovery information can be crucial for change to begin. Addiction and mental health problems are physiological and brain based disorders; the newer neurobiological research is very helpful and freeing, as we see more clearly that our decisions, actions, behaviors, etc are very much brain based; understanding this on a deep level can free us from shame and guilt and that voice that says \"Other people seem to be able to. and I am a failure that I don\'t do.\" Often the most primitive ways our brain is functioning is greatly influencing what decisions and actions we take. Understanding this allows us to work with our own self in a realistic and effective way. All people who have somehow found their way into my life deserve respect, dignity, and a belief from me that change is possible, no matter their past and the choices they made in their past. We never know who is just on the cusp of a life transforming era in their life. We don\'t have that information.\"Mistakes\" on a tragic level and an every day level can at times, be our best catapult into a new life.
