ABOUT MALIKA KARIM

I\'m currently a TV Associate Producer and Reporter at CBC Calgary. Here\'s some info on how it all started: I graduated high school in Calgary with a Bilingual Diploma. I have an undergraduate degree(BSc) from the University of Alberta, as well as a Radio Television Broadcasting Diploma from SAIT Polytechnic in Calgary. During my time at SAIT I interned at CTV Calgary and completed a Practicum at CTV Lethbridge. My first job in TV was in April 2015 with Omni Television and Rogers Broadcasting for a series called \"Alberta Roots.\" The show wrapped up in August 2015 and aired on OMNI TV in early 2016. I joined the Daily Hive, an online publication, and was the City Editor of Daily Hive Calgary. The company started in Vancouver, and expanded to Toronto and Montreal during my time there. I was in charge of all things Calgary, including writing, assigning stories, and scheduling posts on Facebook and Twitter. In 2017 I moved to Lethbridge to work with Global News as a videographer. I shot, edited, wrote and voiced all my own work, as well posted web copies for my stories. I moved to Winnipeg in 2019 to join the team there. As a Digital Journalist/Anchor at Global News in Winnipeg I began as a live reporter for Global News Morning for six months and anchored the show for another six. As a Digital Journalist for the 6pm show, I continued to hone my skills as a story teller and videographer, while adapting to new work conditions with COVID-19 restrictions in place. While working from home I still shot, wrote and edited for the newscast. In my role I also filed for radio (680 CJOB) writing and recording voicers, as well as joining in on live debriefs for talk radio. In 2021, I moved back to Calgary and started as a VJ with CBC. I moved into a permanent role a few months after as an Associate Producer for the 6 & 11pm Television Newscasts.
