ABOUT MALCOM M. BUTEHORN
Currently serve as a Deputy Director in the Legislative Divisions of the New York City Council as head of Compliance. The Compliance Division reviews, monitors, and provides oversight to City agencies, programs and policy implementation. Working in concert with committee staff, Data Operations, the Finance and Oversight & Investigation Divisions, Compliance provides the Council with a more comprehensive and in-depth opportunity to inspect, examine, review and provide oversight over the executive branch and its agencies. The Compliance Division examines government policies as they are being developed; works to ensure that programs are implemented and administered efficiently, equitably, and in a manner consistent with legislative intent; improves the efficiency and effectiveness of governmental operations; evaluates program performance; prevents executive encroachment on legislative prerogatives and powers; and assists in investigating alleged instances of poor administration.The Council is New York City’s legislative body. The Council is separate from the Mayor’s Administration but an equal partner in how our City is run.Currently admitted to practice law in New York State.
