Excited to be leading NHA, which represents America\'s baseload, around the clock reliable renewable resource. Offering clean, secure, affordable and sustainable energy, hydropower is essential to achieving energy abundance. The hydropower industry currently provides 39 percent of the nation\'s renewable generation and 7 percent of overall electricity generation. In addition, pumped storage projects provide 95 percent of energy storage in the United States, making hydropower a critical resource to integrate increasing amounts of variable energy sources into America\'s electricity system. By modernizing existing projects, converting non-powered dams, and embracing related technologies (such as conduit, marine energy, hydrokinetic technologies and pumped storage), water power is posed to play an even greater role in our nation\'s energy future.

Malcolm\'s significant accomplishments include: • raising awareness that water power is an essential part of a 21st century grid, providing affordable, 24/7 reliable, clean electricity to power American prosperity; • securing federal incentives to preserve and enhance the U.S. water power industry, including traditional reservoir and run of river hydropower, pumped storage hydropower, and marine energy technologies like wave, tidal, and current; • launching the Clean Currents trade show and annual conference, which quickly became the undisputed home of the North American hydropower community; • deepening relationships between the hydropower industry and environmental groups, including a historic collaboration with river conservation groups and climate advocates known as the Uncommon Dialogue; • architect of 2008 sustainability legislation resulting in Maryland achieving the largest decrease in carbon emissions of any state (30%) through 2016 and lifetime energy savings in excess of $8B; • Go-to industry expert regularly quoted in the national media, including NBC News, CNN, NYT, and WSJ.
