About Malcolm Douglas
I’m an Economics and Statistics student at UNC Chapel Hill focused on applying econometrics and data analysis to antitrust, litigation, and policy questions. I’ll be joining Compass Lexecon as a Summer Analyst, where I’m excited to apply empirical methods and industrial organization theory to high-stakes economic litigation. My experience spans economic research and consulting-oriented analysis, with responsibility for both executing quantitative work and translating results for decision-makers. As an Economics Intern at the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, I built and interpreted empirical models, worked with large and complex datasets, and synthesized policy initiatives to support market insights. I currently work as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the UNC Economics Department, where I gather, clean, and analyze data for a labor economics study examining overtime allocation and shift-trading behavior.I also serve as an Econometrics Undergraduate Learning Assistant and Peer Tutor, supporting quantitative instruction and economic intuition for hundreds of students across the Economics Department. In this role, I lead office hour sections, collaborate with faculty and an 8-member ULA team to design study resources, and host econometrics review sessions before exams. This experience has strengthened my ability to communicate technical results to non-technical audiences, an essential skill in consulting and litigation contexts.I bring a strong technical toolkit (R, Python, Stata, Excel, Tableau) alongside interests in economic consulting, antitrust economics, and applied econometrics. Outside of academics, I play music with the Davie Circle Band and the Carolina Bluegrass Band and enjoy exploring new restaurants.Always happy to connect with others in economic consulting and applied economics.
