ABOUT MALCOLM ANDERSON
Experienced in the analysis of biomolecules by mass spectrometry. I joined Waters in 2012, gaining in-depth mass spectrometry experience in proteomics, imaging, host cell protein (HCP) analysis, detailed analysis of biopharmaceuticals, and specialization in hydrogen deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX MS). My role encompasses customer sample analysis and instrument demonstrations, customer training and support, troubleshooting, and application development. Prior to Waters, I gained twenty years\' experience in pharmaceutical R&D at AstraZeneca, latterly as part of the Biophysics group applying mass spectrometry to fragment-based drug discovery. Earlier AZ experience included leading a recombinant protein analytical group, protein science in support of small molecule drug discovery and protein structural studies, and three years as part of a biopharmaceutical production pilot team. Key Skills: • Expertise in protein MS: intact, peptide mapping, PTM analysis (CID, ETD, quantitative), HDX MS, native MS (noncovalent interactions), ion mobility-MS (CCS measurement), top-down sequencing (ETD / CID) etc. • Expertise in protein characterization by PAGE techniques, analytical chromatography, Edman sequencing, analytical ultracentrifugation, SPR, ITC, DLS, thermofluor etc. • Acted as biophysics project coordinator in cross-disciplinary teams. Evaluation and application of MS including protein:ligand and protein:protein interactions, ligand screening, mode of action analysis. • Fragment-based drug discovery: working with multi-discipline FBDD project teams, applying MS screening and characterization techniques • Laboratory / group management: I led a small protein characterization analytical group from 2003. While in the Biophysics group in (20••••12) I successfully submitted a CASE studentship proposal (with Geoff Holdgate, AZ); from Oct 2011 I was industrial supervisor for a PhD student in collaboration with Prof. Ashcroft at the Astbury Centre, University of Leeds.
